Clarendon School District Two is helping all students develop the world-class skills of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by providing a rigorous curriculum, high-quality instruction, personalized learning experiences and unique enrichment opportunities designed to prepare our students for college and careers.
During the 2020-2021 school year, in Clarendon School District Two, we became committed to creating and sustaining a “Culture of STEM” within our district via a partnership with Discovery Education. We want to provide our students, K4-12th grade, with relevant and applicable learning experiences that will propel them towards success inside and outside of their classrooms. It is our desire that every classroom, in every school in Clarendon School District Two, provides students with learning experiences that continuously engage them in the four C’s- Communication, Collaboration, Critical Thinking, and Creativity. Ultimately, we aspire to exemplify that STEM education is truly a “culture and not a class!”
In order to better prepare our students for college and careers, we implemented the Workshop Model approach for instructional delivery, system-wide, during the 2020-2021 school year. This approach to instruction facilitates student learning, more productively, by providing students with the necessary amount of time to think, problem-solve, collaborate, and sometimes to even engage in the necessary “productive struggle” that is oftentimes associated with building useful, and lasting, understanding and skill. Essentially, such a learning environment truly facilitates student-centered learning, where students can truly take ownership of their own learning processes.
We continue to offer our district’s Montessori choice program for students ages three through third grade. As of the 2020-2021 school year, we have approximately 70 enrolled, in 4 different classes, two classes containing children ages 3-5 and two classes containing children ages 6-8. In preparing for their move from 3rd to 4th grade, we provide students with a transition period so that they are successful during their transition from a Montessori classroom to a “traditional” classroom setting.
Our district has a long, and strong history of participating in Career and Technology courses through the F.E. Debose Career Center and Manning High School. Through these two schools, our students are able to choose from among 12 career clusters with more than 60 CATE courses as they progress through their secondary education experience.
More recently, we have also entered into a partnership with Central Carolina Technical College (CCTC) to offer our students the opportunity to earn an Associate of Arts degree while completing their S.C. High School Diploma. This year alone, we had 2 students to receive their Associate of Arts degree, bringing our total number of students earning an Associate of Arts degree, while working to earn their S.C. High School Diploma, to approximately 32 students, over the past four years.
Clarendon School District Two is committed to exemplifying its mission of “Educating Children,” through its implementation of challenging and comprehensive curricula and instructional programs designed to meet the diverse needs of all of its students as they prepare to be college and career ready.
