During the 2020-21 school year, Abbeville County School District worked diligently to focus on the needs of our staff and students. While the COVID-19 pandemic brought new physical, emotional, and academic challenges, our staff, parents and community adapted accordingly. Many students attended school in a face-to-face model while others conducted their classes online. Through both platforms, ACSD teachers continued to deliver sound instruction and address student needs. We believe that all students can learn given the appropriate learning opportunities and experiences and are committed to preparing students with World Class Knowledge, World Class Skills, and Life and Career Characteristics that ensure their success.
This year our teachers implemented SC Standards into the daily instruction through a variety of teaching strategies to ensure rigor and relevance. We worked with institutions of higher education to provide more dual credit courses for our students in the coming year. Abbeville County School District’s goal is to make sure all students are career and/or college ready by graduation.
In spite of the pandemic and its related obstacles, ACSD successfully graduated 180 students. Notable achievements of the students of the graduating class: 10 students earned the Palmetto Fellows Scholarship, 95 students earned the SC LIFE/HOPE Scholarships, 100 students earned 1054 college credit hours through Dual Enrollment in various subjects and content areas, 38 students earned certification credentials in technical fields, and 11 students earned athletic scholarships. Seventy-one students plan to attend a 4-year college/university, 68 students have been accepted to attend a 2-year college, and 5 students plan to enter the military. Total Scholarships for the 2020-21 Graduating Class totaled $6,312,482.
The district and all of our schools are accredited through the S.C. Department of Education and have earned additional accreditation and recognition for meeting high standards for a quality school system from Cognia.
We believe that education is the shared responsibility of the home, school, and community. Our school board, administration, faculty, staff, parents, students and community continue “Putting Students First” in our decision making and planning! Our people make the difference!
