Mauldin Middle School is committed to helping all students develop World Class Skills of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by working with them to improve their academic achievement, gain and develop resources, and build and maintain positive relationships with members of our community. Our stakeholders support our students and school by working with us to promote and clarify our school’s mission and beliefs.
Mauldin Middle School was chosen to be part of Greenville County’s pilot group of Discovery Education Digital Tech Corps. MMS teachers have been trained in the best use of technology in class instruction and our students have directly benefited from this training. Discovery Education includes a multimedia library of educational videos, images, activities, and lessons that are appropriate for every age and learning level, correlated to state standards. Discovery Education is a way for students and teachers to incorporate innovative technology and digital media in the classroom to enhance the learning environment.
Professional development sessions were led by our instructional coach, Digital Tech Corp teachers, and administrators. They, in turn, have trained the faculty in the best practices of technology in the classroom which has greatly benefited our students. MMS participated in the district’s Personalized Learning initiative and each student received a Chromebook for academic use. These Chromebooks are utilized by the teachers and the students to enhance the degree of learning. We have successfully integrated technology and 21st Century skills into our curriculum and are continually looking for ways to improve our use of technology to promote the success of our students.
Each school year we identify new courses that will provide our students with exposure to classes that will prepare them to compete in a global economy and be equipped for success in high school, college, and in their career.
Increasing the opportunity for each student to participate in courses that award high school credit in middle school has been a focus at Mauldin Middle School. Students can embark in a more rigorous course load by advancing to Algebra I, Geometry, English 1 Honors, Spanish 1 and 2, French 1, Google Basics, and many more virtual classes. These courses are relevant, rigorous, and allow our students to have more choices at the high school level.
Our students are provided with a period of “flex time”. Flex time is instructional time at the beginning of each school day set aside specifically for teachers to meet students where they are academically. Students receive either assistance in a content area in which they are struggling, enrichment in a content area in which they are excelling, or individualized guidance in completing their assigned academic tasks from teachers. The purpose of including “flex time” in our schedule is to help students reach their full academic potential, encourage students to become life-long learners, and to provide a system of intervention, enrichment, and individualized guidance for all students during the school day.
We develop students who exhibit World Class Skills of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by encouraging them to think critically. Our objective is to support and develop our next generation of leaders and to properly prepare them for a lifetime of success.
