Liberty Elementary School is helping all students develop the world class skills and life and career characteristics of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by providing a safe, caring, and academically challenging learning environment. We provide such an environment through the implementation of our school vision. Our vision is to be a school that is Learning and Growing Together. We demonstrate this vision by challenging our students with best practices to reach their full potential and by the continuous professional development of our teachers. Our teachers are always seeking to learn new and effective strategies to use in the classroom such as: Leveled Literacy Intervention (LLI), Cafe, manipulatives, Moby Max, Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS), Moby Max, shared reading, small group guided reading, Conferencing, Math Interventionist, Reading Interventionist, Project Based Learning, and Reading Recovery. These initiatives help to develop critical thinking and collaboration while using best practices and relevant technology. We are excited to provide a computer (1:1 technology ratio) for all students in grades 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades. Each student has their own computer to use throughout the day each day. At Liberty Elementary we also have various programs outside the academic world to focus on the development of the whole child. Recently we increased recess time for students. We believe it is imperative for students to have adequate time to interact in unstructured play to help them learn and grow both socially and emotionally. School-wide we have focused on embedding the 6 Pillars of Character in all that we do. We believe it is necessary that our students learn the importance of Trustworthiness, Respect, Responsibility, Fairness, Caring, and Citizenship to ensure success in life. This year we continued to use the Positive Behavior Interventions and Support (PBIS) program here at LES. This program rewards our students for displaying positive behaviors. We celebrate these behaviors with our student Leaders of the Pack in our monthly Bravo Breakfast. We also continued our partnership with the Young Appalachian Musicians (YAMs) program. This program had numerous students staying after school to learn to play the banjo, guitar, and fiddle; the arts help student develop creativity, persistence, and self-direction. This year we also continued an after school clubs and programs: Pottery Club, Girls On The Run, Guitar Club, Fitness Club, Dance Club, Writing Club, and Chess Club. Our guidance counselor taught monthly classroom guidance lessons. She also has a helper named Dolly Mae, our very own school therapy dog, who is always there to make any student feel better. LES also partnered with the Feed A Hungry Child Program to provide food over the weekend for numerous needy students. We continued to offer Breakfast In The Classroom for our students. This program ensures all have a healthy breakfast and are ready to begin their day. Nothing is more important that student and faculty safety. We were able to put procedures in place during the pandemic that kept our students and teachers safe and allowed them to have face to face instruction for the majority of the year. At Liberty Elementary we believe the school, family, and community must share the educational responsibility of our young. Thank you for all of your support in helping in the development of our future South Carolina graduates and world leaders!
