St. Matthews K-8 School strives to do what's best for children, by providing them with empowering opportunities to compete and succeed in a global society. Our school is helping all students develop the World Class Skills of the Profile of South Carolina Graduate by being committed to fostering the progress of children as they become proficient in 21st century skills and dispositions. Through the application of Cardinal Character, students use critical thinking and problem solving skills to engage in rigorous and multiple paths of learning. Teachers facilitate effective personalized instruction that is research-based and aligned to the SC Ready standards in order to meet the needs of all students.
Our one-to-one technology initiative for Pre-K-eighth grade promotes engineering, mathematics, arts and the social sciences. Teachers integrate project based strategies throughout core subject content. Our STEM program teaches work and interpersonal skills through science and math material. Students in middle school can earn up to five high school credits, which includes a foreign language. For the 2018-2019 school year, St. Matthews K-8 had three students named as Juniors Scholars and twenty three students to be Duke Tip Scholars in grades four through seven. We have five Regional Science Fair and South Carolina State University STEM winners. Additionally, we had 100% of our students to pass their end of the course exam in English I and two students to score 100. We also provide St. Matthews K-8 students with an array of enrichment programs that instill lifelong skills, such as Student Council, RIDDE, National Junior Beta Club, Mentoring Programs, Focus Tuesdays, DARE, MLK Oratory Contest, Project Life Positeen and after school Boys and Girls Clubs.
Parents, community, and stakeholders are a significant components to the success of our students. St. Matthews K-8 School’s PTO nurtures the goals of the school through afterschool and Saturday academy contributions and assisting in maintaining advantageous learning environment for students. The SIC plays an active role in the life of the school and community. Our volunteers are a part of the school’s daily operations. Community agencies and churches participate in Grandparents’ Day, Muffins for Moms, Veterans Day, African American History, and Hispanic Month events and activities. Additionally, the school participates in numerous initiatives such as food drives, March of Dimes, and Adopt-a-Family.
It continues to be the goal of St. Matthews K-8 School to promote students who are world class leaders who positively impact our society. We have, can, and will do what’s best for children.
