Greenwood School District 50 is helping all students in our district develop the world-class skills of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by providing high-quality educational services. In my first year as Superintendent, I am filled with gratitude and pride for the remarkable students, employees, families, Board members, and community partners who make our district such a special place. Over the past year, I have had the opportunity to visit classrooms, attend school events, meet with staff and families, and witness firsthand the dedication and passion that exist throughout our schools and community. All of these experiences have reinforced my belief that District 50 is a place committed to excellence and focused on preparing tomorrow’s leaders together.
This school year has been highlighted by significant accomplishments and continued academic success. Our students continued to perform at high levels on state assessments, with District 50 once again exceeding state averages in multiple grade levels and subject areas. The growth of our students is a direct reflection of the hard work and commitment of our teachers, support staff, administrators, and families, who work together every day to support student success.
The South Carolina Department of Education released its annual School Report Cards during the Fall, and our district continued its tradition of excellence. Five of our schools earned an Excellent rating, and three schools earned a Good rating, reflecting steady progress across the district. Additionally, both Greenwood High School and Emerald High School improved their overall ratings, marking notable gains in performance. We look forward to continuing our efforts to improve all of our schools as we strive to make a positive impact in the lives of our children every day.
Throughout the year, our district remained focused on providing students with meaningful opportunities that prepare them for success beyond graduation. From career and technical education programs and dual enrollment opportunities to athletics, fine arts, and extracurricular activities, our students continued to excel both inside and outside the classroom. These experiences help develop the skills and character necessary for students to thrive in an ever-changing world.
In March, Hodges Elementary School teacher Nashari Williams was named a State Teacher of the Year finalist. Being named a state finalist is an extraordinary accomplishment and a testament to the dedication, passion, and impact that Mrs.Williams has on students every day at Hodges. Teachers like Mrs. Williams represent the very best of our profession. Our district was incredibly proud to see her commitment to student success recognized at the state level. Even though she wasn’t selected as the overall winner, we look forward to her continued inspiration of both students and colleagues throughout our district for many years to come.
One of the highlights of my first year has been the opportunity to engage with stakeholders throughout our district and community. Building strong relationships and maintaining open lines of communication have been priorities for me as Superintendent. Whether through school visits, community meetings, district events, or conversations with employees and families, I have enjoyed listening, learning, and leading alongside our stakeholders to ensure we continue moving our district forward together.
As we look toward the future, our district remains committed to providing every student with a high-quality education and the support needed to achieve their full potential. Our recent accomplishments are a testament to what we can achieve when we work together with a shared commitment to overall student success. Together, we will build upon our successes, embrace new opportunities, and remain focused on making a difference in the lives of our children.
