**Schofield Middle is helping all students develop the World Class Skills of the **Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by maintaining a laser focus on strengthening Tier I instruction in every classroom. We are equally committed to fostering a supportive, high-yielding learning environment that equips students with world-class knowledge, essential skills, and strong life and career characteristics.
Now in our third year of schoolwide AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) implementation, Schofield Middle is proud to be the only middle school in Aiken County designated as both an AVID Schoolwide Site of Distinction and an AVID Highly Certified Site. These prestigious designations reflect our intentional commitment to strengthening instruction through AVID while building a culture of high expectations and college and career readiness. Practices such as AVID binders and focused note-taking help students take greater ownership of their learning and develop the habits necessary for success.
AVID WICOR strategies (Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization, and Reading) are consistently integrated into daily instruction to support high-quality Tier I instruction across all content areas. This approach supports mastery of standards while preparing students for postsecondary and career pathways.
At Schofield Middle, we cultivate a culture in which students are celebrated, empowered to lead, encouraged to make sound decisions, and motivated to achieve academic excellence. On-site tutoring, our Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS), intersession, and content recovery provide targeted assistance when needed. Our educators also collaborate through content-based professional learning communities and grade-level teams to make informed decisions responsive to student needs.
We believe meaningful learning extends beyond the classroom. Mentoring, exhibitions of student work, service-learning projects, and field trips offers exposure and the ability to explore their interests and apply their learning in authentic settings. These experiences foster self-advocacy, leadership, and a sense of belonging while helping students recognize their responsibility to their school and community.
Celebrating growth and achievement is an important part of our culture. AVID celebrations, Champs Camp, honor roll recognition, positive behavior celebrations, our annual Athletic Banquet, Junior Beta Club inductions, and recognition of South Carolina Junior Scholars allow us to honor the many ways students contribute and excel. This year, we proudly celebrated seven South Carolina Junior Scholars, three students accepted into Aiken Scholars Academy, and numerous honor roll students. These accomplishments reflect the hard work of our students and the commitment of our faculty, staff, families, and community.
Strong family and community partnerships are essential to our work. Open communication and meaningful opportunities for engagement strengthen the support surrounding our students and reinforce our shared responsibility for their success.
We are excited about the future and remain committed to continuous growth and high expectations for every student. As we strengthen instruction and expand meaningful opportunities, we remain focused on preparing students for success in school and beyond. Everyday learning is our focus, and Schofield Middle will be a school of excellence!
