Strom Thurmond High School is committed to providing every student with a safe, engaging, and rigorous learning environment that prepares them for success beyond graduation. As the only high school in Edgefield County School District, we are proud of our tradition of excellence while continually strengthening opportunities that prepare students for college, careers, military service, and life.
Our school is built upon the belief that every student deserves access to meaningful learning experiences that connect classroom instruction with real-world application. Through high expectations, strong relationships, and a commitment to continuous improvement, our faculty and staff work collaboratively to ensure students are challenged, supported, and equipped with the knowledge and skills needed to thrive in an ever-changing world.
The Career Academy model remains the cornerstone of the Strom Thurmond High School experience. Every student begins their high school journey in the Freshman Academy, where they receive intentional academic support, develop essential learning habits, and explore future career pathways. This transition year helps students build confidence, establish connections, and create a strong foundation for success throughout high school.
After completing the Freshman Academy, students select one of two Career Academies based on their interests and post-secondary goals:
Human Services and Business Academy
Students pursuing careers in healthcare, education, business, hospitality, or public service participate in authentic learning experiences that blend rigorous academics with career-focused coursework. Through partnerships with local businesses, healthcare providers, and community organizations, students gain valuable workplace experiences while developing leadership, communication, and professional skills.
STEAM Academy
The STEAM Academy prepares students for careers in science, technology, engineering, advanced manufacturing, cybersecurity, the arts, and related technical fields. Students engage in hands-on learning, problem solving, collaborative projects, and industry-recognized credential opportunities that prepare them for both higher education and today's workforce.
A key component of both academies is the Strom Thurmond Career and Technology Center, where students have access to high-quality Career and Technical Education programs, industry-standard equipment, dual enrollment opportunities, and workforce certifications. These experiences allow students to graduate with credentials, college credit, and practical skills that position them for immediate success after high school.
While career preparation remains central to our mission, we recognize that exceptional instruction is the foundation of every student's success. During the 2026 school year, Strom Thurmond High School continues its focus on strengthening Tier I instruction by ensuring greater clarity in teaching and learning across every classroom. Through collaborative professional learning, high-quality instructional resources, meaningful student engagement, and consistent expectations, we are working to create learning experiences where every student understands what they are learning, why it matters, and how they can demonstrate success.
At Strom Thurmond High School, we believe success is measured not only by academic achievement but also by the character, resilience, and readiness our graduates demonstrate as they leave our campus. We remain committed to partnering with families, businesses, and our community to provide exceptional opportunities that empower every student to reach their full potential. Together, we continue building a school culture where students are prepared to lead, serve, and succeed in whatever path they choose.
