Larne Elementary School is committed to preparing every student with the world-class knowledge, skills, and life and career characteristics outlined in the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate. Serving nearly 450 students in Pre-K through fifth grade, Larne provides a safe, inclusive, and child-centered learning environment where students are encouraged to grow academically, socially, and as leaders. Through our Leader in Me framework, students develop the skills to set priorities, work toward meaningful goals, take responsibility for their learning, and make a positive impact on their school and community.
Instruction at Larne is designed to respond to the individual needs of our learners. Teachers use flexible grouping in mathematics and reading to provide targeted instruction, while classroom and fine arts teachers collaborate to create meaningful opportunities for integrated learning. To support Tier I instruction, we have Reading and Math coaches. Morning Meeting provides an important start to each school day and reinforces leadership habits, responsibility, accountability, problem-solving, flexibility, and effective communication. Students use leadership notebooks to collect evidence of growth and achievement, set goals, monitor progress, and reflect on their learning. Students in grades 3–5 also have opportunities to participate in Gifted and Talented programming. In addition, two full-time interventionists provide research-based academic interventions to support students with identified learning needs.
Strong family partnerships are an important part of our school community. Larne is committed to providing families with consistent and accessible communication about student learning, school events, and opportunities for involvement. Teachers utilize district-supported digital platforms to communicate classroom information, while families can access student grades and academic information through PowerSchool and the CSD Parent Portal. School and district communication tools, including the CSD mobile app, LES website, and Larne social media, help families remain connected to our school community.
Our School Improvement Council works collaboratively with school leadership to support continuous improvement and student growth. Our Parent Teacher Association provides valuable volunteer support, promotes family engagement, coordinates school events and fundraisers, and helps provide incentives and opportunities for students. Community partnerships further strengthen our school through volunteers, mentoring, tutoring, resources, and donations.
Larne is also committed to supporting the needs of the whole child. School-based behavioral support includes a full-time Registered Behavior Technician, and partnerships with community mental health providers, including Catawba and Thrive, provide additional services and connections for students and families.
At Larne, student leadership and empowerment remain central to our work. We will continue to create opportunities for students to have a voice in their learning, set meaningful goals, monitor their progress, recognize their growth, and celebrate their successes as they develop the skills and confidence to lead today and in the future.
