Hendrix Elementary IB World School: Empowering Learners, Connecting Communities
At Hendrix Elementary IB World School, we take great pride in developing the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by providing a safe, nurturing, and academically rigorous learning environment. Our commitment to excellence extends beyond our classrooms through a dynamic blend of academic achievement, arts integration, student leadership, and community engagement.
This year, Hendrix proudly earned recognition as a Visible Learning Associate School, reflecting our commitment to knowing our impact, fostering student ownership of learning, and creating a culture where growth, reflection, and achievement are at the center of every classroom. This accomplishment complements our longstanding work as an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School and reinforces our belief that students thrive when they understand what they are learning, how they will know they are successful, and what steps will move their learning forward.
Hendrix is also honored to be the first school in Spartanburg School District Two recognized as an Arts in Basic Curriculum (ABC) School. This distinguished designation reflects our commitment to providing a well-rounded education through dance, music, theatre, visual arts, and creative writing. Through intentional arts integration, students are encouraged to think creatively, communicate effectively, and make meaningful connections across disciplines. Our school is also home to the award-winning Wildcat Junior Varsity and Varsity Dance Teams, proud two-time State Champions.
Our dedicated faculty and staff provide differentiated, student-centered instruction aligned with South Carolina state standards within the framework of the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme. Through inquiry, reflection, and action, students develop the knowledge, skills, and dispositions necessary to become thoughtful, compassionate, and globally minded citizens prepared for success in an ever-changing world.
Hendrix’s strength lies in the partnerships we cultivate both locally and globally. Collaborations with faith-based organizations, small businesses, civic groups, corporations, universities, and international sister schools enrich learning experiences, deepen cultural understanding, and expand opportunities for students. Through our 1:1 iPad initiative, we continue to personalize instruction and leverage technology to meet the diverse needs of every learner.
Throughout the year, our family and community engagement events reflected the heart of our school culture. From our 21st Century Community Learning Center (CCLC), Strengthening Families Program, Positive Parenting Program (Triple P) to Fine Arts Showcases, the 101 Dalmation Musical, Book Talk Totes, and our signature 5th Grade IB Exhibition and Recognition Night, families were invited to learn, celebrate, and grow alongside their children. Students also engaged in authentic inquiry and service by researching issues they were passionate about and partnering with nonprofit organizations to take meaningful action within their communities.
Traditions such as Family Fiesta, Field Day, and the International Cherry Blossom Festival continued to bring our school community together and create lasting memories. We are especially proud of our fifth-grade students and teachers for hosting another record-breaking IB Exhibition at BSHS, a culminating experience that beautifully showcased inquiry, leadership, collaboration, and student-led action.
As we reflect on a remarkable year of growth, achievement, and connection, we remain deeply grateful for the support of our families, community partners, faculty, and staff. Together, we are building a culture where students are empowered to learn, lead, create, and make a difference—one child, one experience, and one meaningful connection at a time.
