At Forts Pond Elementary School, we are committed to developing the knowledge, skills and character outlined in the South Carolina Profile of the Graduate. Guided by our vision — We trust each other. We care. We work together to do our best. We celebrate every person. We are the Mighty Mallards! — we continue to build a school culture where students thrive academically, socially and emotionally.
Throughout the 2025–26 school year, our work centered on the belief that “1% Shift = Big Lift.” By making small, intentional improvements each day, students and staff demonstrated that meaningful growth happens over time.
Be Kind
Kindness remains the foundation of our school community. Through a schoolwide structured calendar, lessons, classroom discussions and family partnerships, students explored creative thinking and problem-solving, resilience, integrity and leadership. This year, we also focused on helping students understand how the brain learns, encouraging a growth mindset, resilience and confidence in their ability to succeed.
To support the whole child, staff continued professional learning in trauma-informed practices and social-emotional wellness. Partnerships with Lexington County Mental Health and community organizations provided additional support for students and families.
Learn Together
Learning at FPES is built on collaboration. This year, teachers focused on creating powerful learning experiences that engaged students in critical thinking, problem-solving and meaningful collaboration.
Through Teaching and Learning Teams, data digging, and standards progression work, teachers strengthened instructional practices and built a culture of feedback and continuous improvement. One of our most impactful initiatives was the launch of the FPES Nest System, which connected students and staff across grade levels to foster relationships, leadership and belonging.
Celebrate Big
Celebrating growth and achievement remains a hallmark of our culture. Students were recognized through leadership celebrations, positive office referrals, hallway huddles and classroom recognitions.
Four Student Showcases welcomed families into the learning process and highlighted student creativity, leadership, and achievement. Strong partnerships with families, businesses, churches and community organizations enriched learning opportunities and strengthened support for our students.
At Forts Pond Elementary, we are building more than academic success — we are building a community where students learn, lead, belong, and grow. Through kindness, collaboration and continuous improvement, our Mighty Mallards continue to prove that a small 1% shift can create a big lift for an entire school community.
We are proud to be the Mighty Mallards!
