Oakview Elementary School is helping all students develop World Class Skills of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by providing a safe, caring, and academically challenging learning environment. We create a “Habitat for Learning” by challenging students to think critically in order to reach their full potential, by promoting continuous and collaborative professional development for and among all teachers, and by engaging the school community and its parents in ongoing partnerships.
Our teachers pursue research-based instructional strategies to use in the classroom such as: small group guided reading and math, technology integration, arts integration, and more! This year, all K5-3rd grade teachers participated in their second and final year of LETRS training. Second grade teachers implemented Reading Horizons, a phonics instruction program, continuing the work begun in kindergarten and first grade during the 2024-2025 school year. Both of these initiatives support the school’s efforts to align its literacy practices to the Science of Reading. This year alone, the faculty received over $4,525 in grant funding to carry out innovative instruction. With continued “Excellent” report card ratings, 17 consecutive Palmetto Gold/Silver Awards, and over 40,000 volunteer hours logged in a typical year, Oakview takes pride in the accomplishments of its students, teachers, parents, and community. Oakview was again named a U.S. News and World Report Best Elementary School in South Carolina, ranking 14th out of 998 traditional public and charter schools across South Carolina. Oakview was recognized by Greenville County Schools as a Top 10% performer in ELA and Science. In the arts, one Oakview Owl was recognized by the National PTA with an Award of Excellence in Photography as part of the annual Reflections Contest! These recognitions provide strong evidence of the school’s commitment to excellence and its supportive learning environment.
The 2025-2026 academic year marked the 30th anniversary of the school and our theme was “Hoot Loud, Be Proud!” Through rigorous instruction in the classroom, multiple student leadership opportunities, and numerous before and after school clubs, our Oakview Owls have been “hooting loud” this year! The school connects students with life and career opportunities through its partnerships with community organizations. For example, the Warehouse Theater delivered lessons in the performing arts and the American Society of Civil Engineers hosts a bridge building contest annually. In addition, Oakview offers a wide variety of programs and student opportunities such as artist in residence, author visits, an overnight Barrier Island field trip, chorus, Columbia State House field trip, NASCAR Museum field trip, Cultural Arts Festival, the daily Owl News Network (ONN) broadcast with green screen, archery club, sculpture club, gifted education, Grandparents Day, morning tutors, Best Buddies, Owl Pals, parent workshops, Space Day, a walking track, and much more! This year, Oakview PTA partnered with the school and district in funding two significant safety upgrades with the installation of a playground fence enclosing all recess play zones and a new crossing light on Moore Road to support students who walk to school each day.
With a comprehensive 2024-2025 through 2028-2029 Strategic Plan in place, Oakview sets annual goals for improved student performance, while at the same time, continuing to focus on teaching the “whole child.” Through the efforts of parents, faculty, and community partners, we anticipate success as we fulfill Oakview’s school mission!
