At Monaview Elementary, we believe every child can learn and we honor the variety of backgrounds and cultures in our community. Our motto, "Juntos Podemos" — "Together we can" — has guided our work for the last two years. It reminds students, families, and staff to act with shared purpose and unity. That sense of teamwork is strengthened by our house system, where students from every grade collaborate, support one another in making positive choices, and work for the success of their house and the whole school.
Many students live in homes where English is not the primary language. In response, our committed teachers and staff partner closely with families and students to reach high academic goals. The Monaview team uses specialized strategies to support multilingual learners, blending co-teaching and targeted pull-out instruction so students receive the tailored help they need to succeed.
Our focus on inclusive, high-quality teaching has produced strong outcomes. For four years in a row, Monaview’s report cards have been rated excellent or good, reflecting the dedication of our whole school community. All Monaview educators have completed LTRS (Language and Literacy Reading Standards) training, and most have finished the full two-year state requirement. LTRS centers on the Science of Reading, explaining how the brain learns letters and sounds so teachers can use proven, research-based methods to build students’ literacy.
We also prioritize celebrating students’ and families’ cultural identities. Throughout the year we hold events that reflect our community—like the Hispanic Heritage Festival—to build pride and connection. Spanish-speaking staff help us communicate more effectively with Spanish-language families. Looking forward, we will continue refining our inclusive practices and innovative programs to meet the changing needs of our diverse learners, demonstrating every day that through understanding, commitment, and cooperation, together we can achieve great things.
Our school’s improvement efforts concentrate on three primary criteria that drive instruction and student growth:
- A commitment to high-quality Tier 1 instruction: Teachers deliver clear, standards-aligned lessons to all students, using evidence-based practices to ensure strong core instruction in every classroom.
- Professional Learning Teams (PLTs): Grade-level and cross-grade teams regularly analyze student data, plan lessons, and share effective strategies so teaching continuously improves based on student needs.
- Focused small-group instruction: Teachers use assessment data to form targeted small groups that provide intensive, differentiated support—accelerating learning for students who need extra help and extending learning for those ready for more challenge.
Together, these three priorities—excellent core teaching, collaborative professional learning, and strategic small-group work—complement our broader mission and help ensure every student receives the instruction and support they need to thrive.
