Our Mission and Vision
Bryson Elementary School is helping all students develop the World Class Skills of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by providing a challenging and safe environment. Guided by our school motto—Believe, Excel, Succeed—we empower every child to reach their fullest potential daily. We are immensely proud of the synergy between our dedicated staff and supportive stakeholders who make this vision a reality.
We are also the proud home of a Palmetto Gold Award Designation! This prestigious recognition reflects the hard work of our students, the dedication of our staff, and the unwavering support of our school community in achieving academic excellence.
Academic Focus and Teacher Growth
This year, our faculty engaged in rigorous professional development to deliver customized, student-centered Tier I instruction and strengthen our Professional Learning Communities (PLCs). Key academic highlights include:
-
Visible Learning & Discourse: Utilized data from Learning Walks to focus classroom instruction on accountable talk, academic discourse, and high student engagement.
-
Foundational Reading: Integrated Reading Horizons (Phonics/Phonemic Awareness) and Lexia’s LETRS (Language Essentials for Teachers of Reading and Spelling) suite of professional learning programs designed to provide a deep knowledge of literacy and language expertise in the science of reading. These strategies were also supported by targeted coaching to build student independence.
-
Cultivating Confident Writers: Launched a comprehensive focus on foundational writing skills across all grade levels. By nurturing mechanics, self-expression, and vocabulary, we are ensuring every student builds a powerful, lifelong toolkit for clear and impactful communication infused in their writing.
-
Differentiated Math: Implemented guided math flexible teams, teacher-led learning labs, and started building a new school-wide fact fluency program. Classrooms were enhanced with stations with new manipulatives to drive deeper mathematical conversations to engage students with rigorous activities involving problem solving. A new math problem solving protocol, RAISE (Read, Analyze, Identify, Solve, Engage) was introduced and integrated into lessons to support student achievement.
Whole-Child and Mental Health Support
We believe student achievement goes hand-in-hand with social and emotional learning (SEL).
-
Leadership & Guidance: Our counselors deliver leadership lessons based on Covey’s Seven Habits of Happy Kids through individual and small-group sessions.
-
Mental Health Wellness: A full-time on-site mental health counselor provides vital, direct support to our students and families as needed.
Student Life and Community Connections
We are dedicated to developing responsible global citizens through vibrant partnerships and extracurricular activities:
-
Student Clubs & Arts: WBES Morning News, Student Council, Safety Patrol, Honors Choir, Steel Drums & Bucket Drumming Clubs, Art Club, and Peer Tutoring.
-
School Spirit & Celebrations: PBIS Monthly Incentives, Semi-Annual Awards, Reflections Contest, and the annual Booster Fun Run.
-
Community & Parent Partnerships: Active PTA/SIC, Bear Breakfast learning labs, high school mentorships (Reading with Rams/Teacher Cadets), Veterans/Grandparents Luncheons, Special Olympics, and the STRIVE Math Tutoring Program.
Bryson Elementary School remains an exceptional place where children, families, and community partners collaborate to build bright futures!
