The mission of Waccamaw Intermediate School is to provide a safe, nurturing environment rich in diverse learning experiences that empower all students to become caring, productive, lifelong learners in an ever-evolving global and technological society. This mission is at the heart of everything we do and is what makes Waccamaw Intermediate such a warm, welcoming, and student-centered place to learn and grow.
At WIS, we maintain high expectations for every student. Our teachers deliver rigorous, standards-based instruction across all content areas and work collaboratively with administration to analyze data, monitor progress, and support the whole child—academically, socially, and emotionally. Student growth is not simply a goal; it is an expectation. Through differentiated instruction and targeted interventions, we strive to meet students where they are and help them reach their full potential. Daily learning is enhanced through the use of technology, including one-to-one Chromebooks, interactive smart boards, and a variety of instructional resources that engage students and prepare them for the future. We are also proud of our character education program, which promotes positive behavior and recognizes students who consistently demonstrate our school values. These efforts are reflected in both our strong academic performance and positive school culture.
Beyond the classroom, students are encouraged to discover and develop their interests through a variety of extracurricular opportunities. Programs such as Band, Steel Drum Band, Chorus, Art Enrichment, Intramural Sports, and our school drama productions provide students with meaningful experiences that foster creativity, teamwork, leadership, and personal growth.
Parent and community involvement is one of the greatest strengths of Waccamaw Intermediate School. Our PTO, along with countless family and community partners, plays an invaluable role in supporting our students and staff. Through their generous gifts of time, talent, and resources, they help provide classroom materials, playground improvements, student incentives, and enriching experiences that enhance learning and strengthen our school community.
At Waccamaw Intermediate School, we are proud to be G.A.T.O.R.S.—Growing an Achieving, Thoughtful, Optimistic, and Respectful School community. Together, we are committed to creating an environment where every student feels valued, supported, and inspired to succeed.
