Mount Pleasant Academy intentionally weaves the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate and the district’s 2027 fifth-grade literacy goal into our daily instructional fabric. Through the vital alignment of district priorities, we ensure that every student develops world-class skills alongside essential college- and career-readiness skills.
Our high-quality instruction blends traditional rigor with innovative learning experiences. Supported by our PTA and strategic funding, our dedicated Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics enrichment program challenges students weekly through engineering tasks and hands-on science labs. This coursework seamlessly connects to our core curriculum and our school-wide garden project, fostering crucial collaboration, critical thinking, and creativity. Crucially, our STEM instructor embeds high-interest read-alouds, specialized vocabulary activities, and research into these lessons, reinforcing literacy skills across content areas.
To accelerate reading mastery, our faculty embraces robust data-driven decision-making. We utilize adaptive digital literacy and numeracy programs that diagnose individual needs and customize student learning pathways. Teachers actively monitor this data weekly, adjusting lessons to keep students on track toward their annual typical and stretch growth targets. This precise, digitized approach ensures that instruction remains highly differentiated and responsive to every learner's unique pace.
Furthermore, teacher collaboration drives our academic success. Our faculty operates within a structured Professional Learning Community framework where educators regularly analyze student outcomes. Three times a year, our teachers partner with our specialized reading coach to conduct deep-dive data reviews, pinpoint specific instructional gaps, and share best practices. By combining the equity of Weighted Student Funding with targeted coaching, adaptive software, and innovative cross-curricular programs, Mount Pleasant Academy maximizes student growth. We remain steadfastly committed to elevating literacy outcomes and equipping all learners with the foundational tools needed to thrive at grade level by 2027 and beyond.
