Crayton Middle School is committed to fostering the development of the World Class Skills outlined in the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate. Through the integration of research-based strategies in the classroom and a wide array of extracurricular opportunities, Crayton strives to provide a well-rounded educational experience for all students. Located in the heart of the Forest Acres community, Crayton serves students in grades 6 through 8. The collaborative efforts of dedicated educators, alongside strong support from parents and the community, contribute to the school’s ongoing success and excellence.
Crayton Middle School is honored to be the first school in South Carolina to be designated a School of Distinction by the Association for Middle Level Education (AMLE) for the 2024-2027 period. This recognition underscores the school’s commitment to excellence and its continued growth. Additionally, Crayton was named a School to Watch by the National Forum to Accelerate Middle Grades Reform for the 2017-2019, 2020-2022, and 2023-2026 periods. As a result of these accolades, the school’s faculty members actively contribute to state and national conferences, offering insights and guidance to other institutions striving to achieve similar recognition.
The school also takes pride in its academic achievements. Crayton is home to the highest number of Middle School Scholars (94) and South Carolina Junior Scholars (46) in the district. Our Quiz Bowl team demonstrated outstanding performance by securing second place in the state at Lander University in just their second year of competition. The Band program continues to thrive, earning Excellent ratings at the SCBDA Solo and Ensemble Performance and Assessment, with four students selected for the SC Youth Symphony. Additionally, students in the visual and performing arts consistently achieve recognition through awards at district, regional, and state competitions.
Crayton’s faculty is composed of highly qualified professionals who work collaboratively to create engaging and effective learning experiences. Teachers regularly engage in common planning and create shared assessments, ensuring that high academic expectations and rigor are maintained for all students. The school benefits from the strong involvement of its active Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO) and School Improvement Council (SIC), which play a vital role in the school’s ongoing success.
Crayton’s culture is built upon a foundation of high expectations, positive relationships, and data-driven decision-making, all of which support and enhance the overall learning environment. The school’s commitment to excellence is encapsulated in its motto: “Expect the Best, Give the Best, Be the Best.” With a focus on fostering personal growth and academic achievement, Crayton Middle School continues to provide an exceptional education for its students, preparing them for success both in school and in life.
