Columbia High School is changing the narrative for our students by embracing four core values: Every Minute Matters, Joy in the Journey, Beyond the Call of Duty, and Scholars Above Self. Our primary goal is to ensure students’ preparedness for an ever-changing global environment by acquiring world-class skills and career characteristics defined by the South Carolina Graduate Profile. Our school achieves these characteristics by offering a rigorous curriculum and a career-focused program. Our staff is committed to supporting teaching and learning in an environment that fosters student achievement and ensures our students become lifelong learners with the skills to reach their full potential. During the 2024-2025 school year, our staff and students persevered to receive numerous awards and accolades. Most notably, Columbia High School received the Magnet School Assistance Program (MSAP) Grant designation. The five-year MSAP grant allows students to take classes in one of four academic areas: Cybersecurity, Aerospace, Engineering, and Biomedical. Students have the opportunity to participate in and explore various career fields while earning dual credit (combining high school and college credit). Additional career exploration includes our Teacher Cadet Program and our nationally recognized AFJROTC.
Below are a few Points of Pride for the 2024-2025 school year:
During the 24-25 school year, half of the student body was recognized as being on the honor roll each quarter.
Magnet students were invited to Silicon Valley (Google Headquarters). One student was the first in the state of South Carolina to receive his FAA Drone Certification!
Academic tutoring took place weekly and on Saturdays to provide students with academic support in all content areas.
Students participated in numerous career and college readiness activities, including field trips to businesses, industries, colleges, and universities. Our College and Career Readiness Rate increased by over 10% from the previous school year.
Two students received the South Carolina SEAL of Biliteracy.
Our AVID 4 Students received the highest number of academic scholarships from Richland School District One, totaling $ 330,000.
Our faculty, staff, and community are committed to working diligently to improve the teaching and learning experience provided to our students. Through our efforts, our students will be successful and well-equipped to face real-world challenges. Together, WE are Capital Strong!
Sincerely,
