Hemingway Elementary School
Home of the Tiny Tigers
Hemingway Elementary School (HES) proudly serves approximately 270 scholars from Child Development through Fifth Grade. At HES, every child is valued, every voice is heard, and every day is an opportunity to grow. Our scholars receive a high-quality education in a safe and nurturing environment, where they are encouraged and supported to do their personal best.
We believe that we are “Making Pathways to Success”—one step, one lesson, and one scholar at a time. Our dedicated faculty and staff adopt innovative approaches and best practices to help scholars become responsible, productive citizens, ready to thrive in an ever-changing world. To achieve this vision, we focus on strong instructional programs, teacher preparedness, and meaningful home-to-school partnerships. Together, we cultivate a positive school climate that celebrates teaching, learning, and growth.
Hemingway Elementary is committed to helping all scholars develop world-class skills and the life and career characteristics outlined in the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate. We equip our Tiny Tigers to be college and career-ready by infusing research-based strategies that promote collaboration, critical thinking, creativity, communication, and leadership.
Our teachers are lifelong learners who continuously grow through professional development focused on effective strategies, data-driven instruction, and rigorous curriculum alignment. Using student data to inform decisions, they deliver engaging lessons that challenge and inspire scholars across all content areas. Through a multi-tiered system of supports (MTSS), we provide targeted academic and behavioral interventions to help every scholar succeed.
Weekly Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) and collaborative planning sessions allow teachers and administrators to work together on curriculum, assessment alignment, and instructional improvement. Topics include lesson design, student engagement, special education, gifted instruction, and effective teaching practices—all aimed at ensuring high levels of learning for every child.
Beyond academics, our scholars shine as leaders and community contributors. They proudly participate in activities such as Jr. Beta Club, Musical Performances, Student Council, Title I program, sports, and community service projects. These experiences help shape well-rounded individuals who demonstrate Tiger Pride in all they do.
Through our Positive Behavior Intervention System (PBIS), scholars are continuously encouraged to show respect, responsibility, and readiness. Positive behaviors are celebrated through praise, coaching, and rewards such as Tiger Bucks, which can be spent at our school store or saved for special quarterly celebrations.
At Hemingway Elementary School, we believe that all scholars can learn and succeed. Our dedicated staff works tirelessly to create an environment where that belief becomes reality each day. Together, we are preparing the next generation of South Carolina graduates and future leaders—one Tiny Tiger at a time.
