Wood Elementary: Leading & Learning
At Wood Elementary, our vision is simple: Wood is Leading & Learning. We believe every student can succeed, and we work daily to create a school where students feel valued, learning is engaging, and dreams are supported.
Our school community follows clear commitments:
● We model the behaviors we want to see.
Students learn and live our OWLS Essentials—Own our actions, Work together, Lead by example, Show respect—through academics, service, and events like Hispanic Heritage Month, Veterans Day, and Black History Month. Many serve in roles like Safety Patrol, Flag and Cafeteria Crews, and our first year participating in Unified Partners.
● We collaborate to grow and improve.
Teachers work in teams, lead peer observations, and engage families through content nights and student-led conferences to strengthen instruction and student success.
● We try new ideas to support all learners.
Staff use high-impact strategies and teacher-led professional development to meet the diverse needs of our students. This year we started offering professional development each month with topics requested by teachers and facilitated by teachers.
● We plan with purpose to ensure student achievement.
Every student receives targeted support through goal setting, data tracking, and our NEST Time (Next steps, Engaged learning, Specific skills, scheduled Time) for intervention and enrichment. Our after-school program, Lex2.5, proved to be very successful for students in attendance with growth above 50% as measured by MAP.
● We celebrate progress regularly.
Student growth is recognized through HOOTfest, Run Hard, Book Vending Machine rewards, and engaging family events like Fine Arts Night, Polar Express Music Night, and STEM/Literacy Nights.
We also prioritize attendance and student well-being through strong partnerships with Communities in Schools, our counselors, and social workers.
At Wood, we lead and learn together—creating a school where every child can thrive.
