Brockington Elementary Magnet School for Science and Technology (BEMS) serves 308 students in grades three through five in Darlington, South Carolina. At BEMS, our mission is to prepare students to be college and career-ready, equipped with the skills necessary to thrive in a rapidly evolving, 21st-century world. We believe that a strong foundation in reading and mathematics is essential for future success, whether students pursue higher education, military service, or direct entry into the workforce.
For the 2025–2026 school year, we have developed targeted plans for continuous improvement in English Language Arts (ELA) and mathematics. In mathematics, our instructional approach emphasizes small-group instruction tailored to the individual needs of each student. This method strengthens foundational number sense and deepens understanding of core mathematical concepts. Students will also engage in meaningful problem-solving experiences that connect classroom learning to real-world applications, aligned with the Standards for Mathematical Practice.
In English Language Arts, the department—supported by our ELA Literacy Coach—is committed to cultivating proficient, confident readers and writers. Students participate in diverse reading and writing experiences that encourage critical thinking and the ability to articulate ideas clearly. Instruction is delivered in both whole-group and small-group settings to meet learners at their individual levels, fostering growth at a personalized pace.
Beginning in the 2025–2026 school year, BEMS will launch the S.H.A.R.E. Initiative, a comprehensive anti-bullying campaign. Recognizing that bullying can severely affect a child’s emotional and psychological well-being, this initiative aims to raise awareness, identify early warning signs—such as reluctance to attend school, physical complaints, academic decline, and unexplained missing items—and provide intervention strategies. By promoting open communication and collaboration among students, families, and staff, BEMS is committed to creating a safe, supportive environment for all children.
We are also proud of the strong partnerships we’ve built with local community organizations that enhance our school’s mission. We thank the following partners for their ongoing support: Holt Bros Bar-B-Que of Darlington, Sonic of Darlington, Waffle House of Darlington, Epworth United Methodist Church, St. James United Methodist Church, New Jerusalem Apostolic Church of Jesus, Vanguard Financial Group, Pam Sherrill Realty, Nucor Steel, Vaughn Insurance, LH Stokes, and the Theta Nu Sigma Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc.
At Brockington Elementary Magnet School, we believe that collaboration, dedication, and community involvement are the cornerstones of student success. Through these collective efforts, we strive to prepare our students to meet the challenges of tomorrow with confidence and competence.
