At Meeting Street Elementary – Burns, we are proud to empower children with the
excellent, life-changing education they deserve. As a South Carolina Public School of
Innovation, our pre-kindergarten through fifth grade campus serves the surrounding
neighborhood and partners closely with families.
Our early childhood education program welcomes students at age three and lays the
foundation for a lifetime of learning. All of our students benefit from an extended school
day and year, which allows more time for instruction and growth.
Exceptional teaching is the key to unlocking a student’s full potential. Our team
members participate in over 150 hours of professional learning annually. This data-
driven development hones their craft and ensures transformative classroom instruction.
Our commitment to growth and innovation drives us to constantly evolve our practices
so we can deliver a student experience that meets the demands of today and the
possibilities of tomorrow.
Academic excellence at Meeting Street Elementary – Burns is grounded in life-changing
student achievement. We use a best-in-class, standards-based curricula, including top-
rated programs in literacy and math. We teach literacy using the Science of Reading,
which includes explicit phonics instruction, high-quality texts and rigorous assessments.
In math, students develop deep conceptual understanding and problem-solving skills
through a curriculum that challenges and excites them. Our academic offerings are
further enriched through robust programs in science, social studies, theatre, physical
education and visual arts, ensuring every student receives a well-rounded education.
Each child is known deeply. By analyzing test scores and building strong relationships,
our teachers differentiate instruction to meet all students’ needs and ensure they make
the academic growth needed to thrive in high school, college and life. Every classroom
has two teachers to maximize support and learning. As students grow, they are
challenged to think critically, read and write authentically and build habits that will serve
them for a lifetime.
We are committed to developing our students’ character and purpose. We focus on the
eight character traits associated with successful adults and use this Paths to Success to
nurture confident, responsible and community-minded young people. Our integrated
student supports includes a full-time medical clinic and a team of interventionists.
At Meeting Street Elementary – Burns, children are not only prepared for the future, but
empowered to shape it.
