World-Class Knowledge is integrated into our comprehensive, standards-aligned instructional approach in English Language Arts (ELA) and Mathematics, with educators receiving guidance from coaches during weekly Professional Learning Communities (PLCs). Multilingual students were supported through the Multilingual Learning Service Delivery model to support their individual educational needs. Literacy intervention instructors remained dedicated to assisting students through the SIPPS program for weekly Tier 2 and 3 instruction. Student Learning Objectives (SLOs) were emphasized across the school in Mathematics, with targets set according to student needs assessments. We upheld our commitment to student success by providing additional afterschool tutoring in both ELA and Mathematics.
As a STEM certified school, we challenge our students to think critically through our school choice option of Computer Science that promotes World Class Skills. Our related arts courses, such as Introduction to Game Design in grades K through 5, focus on the aspects of coding as well as the development of student-created games. Elementary Engineering, in Grades 2nd through 5th, teaches students to solve problems in innovative ways by creating projects such as paper circuits and utilizing Z-space. BLES integrates innovative digital tools and platforms that foster student interaction, promoting cooperative learning and collective problem-solving skills within the educational environment.
Life and Career Characteristics are at the heart of our daily PRIDE program. PRIDE highlights the characteristics of being Positive, Respectful, Independent, Dependable and putting forth your best Effort. Students are rewarded for their demonstration of these traits through PRIDE bucks, classroom incentives, and quarterly award ceremonies. In addition, BLES participates in district-wide Student of the Month initiatives that focus on specific character traits.
As we concluded the year, BLES initiated strategic planning for future educational initiatives. We remain dedicated to delivering high-quality, innovative learning experiences that support the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate.
