Warrenville Elementary is helping all students develop the World Class Skills of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by providing a safe, rigorous, and engaging learning environment. We provide such an environment through the implementation of our school’s purpose. The purpose of Warrenville Elementary is to provide students with the skills necessary to become college and career-ready by setting rigorous standards in academic performance and high expectations for student behavior. We demonstrate our commitment to our purpose by diligently tracking student data, utilizing research-based instructional strategies, and providing timely interventions and acceleration opportunities such as FastBridge’s Screening to Intervention, iReady’s Teacher Toolbox, Read Naturally Take Aim! at Vocabulary, Spire Comprehension, UFLI, Wordly Wise, multilingual learner support, the Advanced Gifted Program, and Breakout EDU to support student achievement. Through data analysis, students needing more intensive support for reading and math receive additional support from a special education teacher and/or participate in our after-school tutoring program.
Ongoing, sustained professional development is designed to improve teaching and learning. Teachers spend time in professional learning opportunities for support and training on LETRS, Multi-Tiered System of Supports, depth of knowledge, differentiated instruction, providing remediation and acceleration, as well as analyzing data. Together, we develop goals and teaching methods that are developmentally appropriate and meet the academic and behavioral needs of all learners.
At Warrenville, we have various extra-curricular activities that focus on the development of the whole child. These extra-curricular activities support the physical, social, emotional, and intellectual development of our students. Our character education program continues to excel by the recognition of good citizens, safety patrol, news team, and the anti-bullying program, Positive Action. Through our PBIS program, students earn tickets which can be spent at the Train Station for prizes. Our Youth Development Team meets monthly to discuss ways to support the social and emotional needs of our students. Academic, character, and attendance achievements are celebrated. Service-learning projects are also conducted to give back to the community.
Collaborating with all major stakeholders plays an important role in meeting the needs of our students. Through parent workshops, we teach parents strategies to support their child at home. During our Education Extravaganza, we provide parents and students with materials to prevent the summer slide. Through a variety of platforms, we communicate our vision, goals, plans, and priorities to staff, students, parents, and community members on a regular basis. We also involve these stakeholders in developing needs assessments, problem solving, and decision making for school improvement. They also assist with planning, monitoring, and evaluating our school programs for continuous improvement. Parent and community input are welcomed through School Improvement Council meetings and suggestions in response to surveys. Our community has a sense of shared responsibility in the outcome of the future of our young children. This is evident through the establishment of partnerships with: local churches, numerous businesses, community mentors, volunteer grandparents, and the local high school. Faith based and business partnerships support us in community involvement activities, providing school supplies, the backpack food ministry, and other outreach programs.
At Warrenville, we believe the school, family, and community all play a major role in shaping the lives of our youth. Together, we are developing our future South Carolina graduates and world-class leaders!
