The primary goal of North Augusta Middle School (NAMS) is to provide all students with opportunities to develop world-class skills and the life and career characteristics of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by providing a safe, nurturing, academically challenging and supportive learning environment. Working with our parents and other stakeholders, we also strive to foster civic pride and provide our students with experiences and opportunities to explore their interest in a variety of career pathways to include cyber and technology.
Our students continue to excel both academically and in extra curricular activities. One hundred sixty-four of our 7th and 8th grade students were enrolled in high school credit courses and 100% of the students enrolled in Algebra 1 passed the End of Course (EOC) exam with an average score of 88. Nineteen 8th grade students were recognized as SC Junior Scholars. Eighty-five students were inducted into the Junior Beta Club. Ten eighth grade students were enrolled in Geometry and all passed the course.
NAMS students have opportunities to participate in a variety of extracurricular activities resulting in several special recognitions. We offer football, boys and girls basketball, volleyball, and golf. Our students also have an opportunity to play numerous high school sports. Several students auditioned and were accepted into the Aiken County Gifted and Talented GATEWAY summer program for fine arts.
Advanced Band earned a Superior Rating with Distinction at the SCBDA State Concert Band Festival, which is the highest rating a band can receive. NAMS Jacket Singers participated in state assessment and earned a Superior rating as well.
To assist our students in the development of student pride and to aid in achieving the Profile of a South Carolina graduate, our leadership team expanded our school-wide mission and continued to build upon our relationship-building/team building character initiative. This initiative focuses on the development of key character traits and teaches students team-work and individual responsibility to community and self. NAMS continued the partnership with the North Augusta Chamber of Commerce which provides student ambassadors opportunities to learn from professionals in various career fields. In addition, NAMS also continued the community involvement program “Give Me 5” to encourage student volunteerism. NAMS completed its first year as an AVID school. Two sections of 6th grade students participated in the AVID program and the program will expand by adding another section next year.
Our faculty, staff, parents and community stakeholders collaborate to provide North Augusta Middle School students with opportunities to develop as lifelong learners and productive citizens.
