Socastee High School is helping all students develop the World Class Skills of the Profile of the South Caroline Graduate. Socastee High challenges all students to demonstrate the characteristics of a graduate by excelling in academics, arts, athletics, service projects, and extracurricular activities. Successes in these areas create life-long learners who will be prepared for the everyday challenges life presents.
SAT scores had a final average of 1079 for math and ELA which is above the state and national average. ACT scores continued to be above the district and state average with 19.2. End-of-Course (EOC) test scores resulted in a 76.4% passage rate, overall, with 48.6% of the students scoring a C or higher. We had 7 International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma candidates earn their full diploma for the 2023-24 school year. Our AFJROTC unit was named a distinguished unit for the 22nd consecutive year. Our school year ended with 389 graduates; 257 received scholarship offers totaling over $18.9 million. Among the many talented students in the senior class, Socastee High School was privileged to have 232 LIFE Scholarship recipients.
Socastee High School enjoyed great success in extra-curricular activities. Our drama and music departments performed, SpongeBob the Musical, to amazing audiences. Athletics enjoyed another good year, winning 1 out of 21 region championships. The SHS Mock Trial team continues to perform well on the state level. The DECA program competed at the state competition and brought home many first-place winners that went on to compete at the national level; Socastee HS has the second-largest DECA club in South Carolina and multiple students are state officers.
Socastee High School continued to pay it forward in challenging students to put service to others before themselves. Socastee HS leadership and teacher cadet students served as Reading Buddies at Socastee Elementary School. Our Angel Tree fundraiser is always a special event at Socastee High School. We were able to raise enough money to provide over forty students with presents over the holidays that they needed. Socastee High School was also able to feed over twenty families a full Thanksgiving meal with the support of local grocery stores and restaurants. Socastee High School continued its focus on Success, Honor, and Service for the 2023-24 school year and is committed to continuing our quest for overall excellence.
