At Allendale-Fairfax High School (AFHS), we understand the significance of preparing students for life beyond high school. We strive to ensure students are college and career ready by implementing the framework of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate which is aligned to our district mission which is “to provide every student with a world-class education allowing them to graduate college, career, and life ready.” Our school’s creed, which was created by students, teachers, and administrators, conveys our sincere efforts and commitment to academic excellence. Our creed has fostered a sense of high expectations which we hope will help to raise the academic achievement of all students in our school.
Despite last year’s drop in the graduation rate and our academic challenges, our main focus continues to be to increase academic achievement of our students. To improve student achievement, AFHS has implemented and diligently monitors the progress and impact for interventions offered to students. To enrich the proficiency of our teachers, the district has provided staff development and professional learning opportunities that focus on research based instructional strategies and interventions to increase student engagement and achievement.
To prepare students for success we have increased students taking Dual Enrollment classes through Denmark Technical College and the University of South Carolina. - Salkehatchie (USC-Salk). We have implemented An Early College Program through an agreement with USC-Salk. Additionally, AFHS encourages student to enroll in Career Technology Education programs offering certification pathways in Health Science, Cosmetology, Welding Technology, Automotive Technology, and Building Construction Technology. In these programs our students are given an opportunity to earn career-based certification that provides an opportunity for entry into the workplace.
We recognize the need to continue to improve school culture and the continued need to promote a positive learning environment at AFHS. Our goal is to continue to encourage and provide opportunities for parental involvement by hosting school activities that seek to engage families and encourage parental involvement throughout our students’ high school experience. We believe this will help build the positive school environment needed to lay the path towards student success.
