Larne Elementary School is committed to helping all students develop the world-class skills, life, and career characteristics of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate. Larne works to equip each child to learn the social and life skills to manage priorities, focus on goals, and positively impact the world around them. With nearly 600 Pre-K to 5th grade students, we worked together with our families to define a foundational system framework through Leader in Me, that empowers student leadership and provides quality learning experiences for students in a safe, child-centered, inclusive learning environment.
Our teachers offer flexible grouping in mathematics and reading to meet students’ instructional needs. Core curriculum teachers plan with fine arts teachers to integrate instruction. Morning meeting is an important start to our day where habits of leadership, responsibility, accountability, problem-solving, flexibility, and good communication are the focus. Student portfolios hold samples of student growth and accomplishment and provide a place for visual goal-setting and reflection. Students in grades 3-5 have the opportunity to participate in Gifted and Talented learning opportunities. The specific academic needs of our diverse student population are met through intervention services from three full-time faculty members providing research-based interventions.
Our school is committed to connecting and communicating with our families. Teachers connect with families through Seesaw for PreK through 1st grade and Canvas for 2nd through 5th grades. Grades can be accessed through PowerSchool and the CSD Parent Portal. Weekly information concerning events and opportunities is received through Blackboard, Peachjar, the CSD mobile app, LES website, and the Larne Facebook page.
Our School Improvement Council is focused on supporting our school in growth and incentives to reach growth targets. Our Parent Teacher Association includes volunteers to promote and support family engagement events, fundraisers, and incentives at the school. Community partnerships provide support through volunteers in school, mentorship, and donations. Our school provides service to students and families dealing with learning behavioral challenges with a full-time Registered Behavior Technician on campus. Further outreach includes connections with Catawba and Thrive mental health counselors who support our students and families within our school.
At Larne, we will continue to focus on student leadership and empowerment, giving students a voice in setting goals, tracking them, and celebrating their success.
