Hickory Grove Sharon Elementary have the opportunity to learn, serve, and give as members of a variety of extra-curricular teams and clubs. Participating in these clubs and organizations allow students to practice putting the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate in action, using their world-class knowledge, skills, and life characteristics on a routine basis.
At Hickory Grove Sharon Elementary, we have focused upon personalized learning and professional learning communities where teachers work together to strengthen their instructional practices. By providing time for our teachers to review and analyze content area standards, we continue to work to ensure that the instruction and assessment we provide to students is aligned, rigorous, and appropriately challenging. All data from assessments guide teachers to develop instructional plans that remediate weaknesses and provide enrichment as needed. In alignment with our district efforts, we continue to implement student centered learning in our classrooms. Teachers encourage student centered-learning by allowing students to make shared decisions, develop leadership skills, and be an engaged and active participant in his/her learning pathway.
We continue to work to improve teacher practice and effectiveness and elevate the depth at which teachers collaborate to meet the needs of students. Data from SCREADY and SCPASS, NWEA MAP, DRA, as well as summative and formative classroom assessments, defines and drives long-range and short-range instructional planning. To meet the individual needs of students this school year, we continued to implement the Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS), which provided opportunities for us to address the individual academic, social, and behavioral needs of each student. At Hickory Grove Sharon elementary, we believe that each student is unique and we are committed to addressing the needs of the whole child in order to achieve success.
Our school’s mission, vision, and beliefs reflect our district’s mission. We truly have a desire to cultivate a service-oriented community of learners who strive for personal growth and excellence as communicators, collaborators, creators, and critical thinkers!
