Lugoff Elementary School (LES) assists students in developing the world class skills and life and career characteristics of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by providing meaningful and targeted learning experiences. These opportunities develop competent, confident, lifelong learners by creating a safe, positive child-centered environment where our school and community work collaboratively to help students reach their potential.
At LES, one of our mantras is to make every minute count. Our teachers continuously seek and implement interactive and research based strategies to use in the classroom such as Reflex and Frax Math, Reading Eggs/Eggspress, MathSeeds, Letterland, Guided Math, Reader's and Writer's Workshop, Dreambox, Study Island, and the Edmentum Suite. These, along with differentiated instruction, effective Tier 1 instruction, time with the interventionists, and attention to assessment results, help us meet the needs of our learners.
LES students participate in activities that develop them academically, socially and emotionally. They are rewarded throughout the year for positive behavior and choices through our Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) program. Students are also leaders in safety patrol, flag patrol, the morning news show, and Beta Club. Our school counselor develops students of good character through monthly lessons on study/school skills, bullying, drug awareness, personal body safety, friendship skills, and empathy. Also, a student from every classroom is recognized for best exhibiting the character word of the month. This year, we implemented the Ron Clark House System where we our "six houses, one school". In order to help promote a global perspective and encourage our students to not only be thinkers, but doers, we encourage participation in several community service learning projects. This past year we collected canned and other dry goods for a food pantry, donated supplies to a local animal shelter, as well as raised funds for the United Way.
Our school remains committed to encouraging the continued academic, social and emotional growth of all of our students.
