Brunson Elementary School is fully committed to making sure our students develop the World Class Skills of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate. The mission of education at Brunson Elementary is to provide opportunities for every student to become successful by fostering their personal, imaginative, and expressive skills. As students experience a totally infused curriculum, they will acquire a sense of self-assurance and belonging, and learn to be creators, enduring appreciators of the arts, and seekers of knowledge.
With the support of various grants and community partnerships, additional funds enabled our students to go beyond the typical elementary school curriculum. These funds assisted with artists-in-residence programs and enhanced our current school initiatives. In recent years, we added an Acellus Robotics STEM Lab ($40,000 in grant funds) and supplemented our literacy intervention program with book sets ($7,000 from community partners such as Palmetto State Bank, Brunson Lion's Club, and EXXON Mobile). In December, our drama club held a theatrical production “The Nutcracker” followed by our dessert theater production of “Beauty and the Beast” in March. During the last week of school, our second-grade class performed “Red Riding Hood”.
One aspect that contributes to Brunson Elementary School’s success is the dedication of the amazing hardworking staff and the continued support of the local community and parents. With this support, we were able to partner with MUSC Boeing Center for Children’s Wellness and the local Clemson Extension Service to participate in a School Wellness Checklist (earning our school $1,000). Also, students participated in the annual Fire Safety Day which was conducted by the Brunson Fire Department. During Red Ribbon Week students were allowed to dress up for certain “theme” days and participated in a coloring contest and a door decoration contest. In March, students participated in Read Across America Week where they were allowed to dress up and celebrate Dr. Seuss’ birthday. In April, our art students were given the opportunity to submit designs for the Hampton County Soil & Water Conservation District poster contest.
Our goal at Brunson Elementary School is to give students the necessary skills to be successful not only in their careers but also in life. Relationship building is an essential part of our school-wide practice of Conscious Discipline where we focus on teaching missing skills to both adults and students. Creativity, teamwork, perseverance, self-direction, and resiliency are characteristics of all successful Brunson Elementary School Warriors.
