Greenwood Elementary School is committed to helping all students reach their greatest potential by providing rigorous and engaging learning experiences, an expectation of excellence, and student ownership of their academic growth and data.
Students receive differentiated classroom instruction through engaging learning opportunities which provide a solid foundation to support their academic achievement and growth. Our school cultivates high expectations for academic achievement by developing a school culture built on strong character and perseverance, and providing the foundational skills students need for success. Students are supported by our entire school community. Stakeholders understand the importance of building knowledge, skills, and character that contribute to the success of our students.
Greenwood Elementary School’s dedicated staff members meet regularly to analyze student data and collaborate to share instructional strategies to ensure that all students receive quality instruction. Leveraging a multi-tiered approach to instruction and academic support through small group intervention as well as maximizing the use of our one to one technology resources ensures that students are provided with learning opportunities that meet their strengths and challenges. Students participate in interactive digital learning opportunities, which include Google Classroom, Accelerated Reader, Reflex Math, Lexia Core 5, Dreambox, and more. STEM units in grades K-5, helped students develop collaboration, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills as well as engage in 21st century technology innovations. Faculty members invested important time in professional development opportunities as they strive to provide the best possible learning opportunities for our students.
Extra-curricular activities students participated in included the National BETA Club, WGES Morning Show, Band and the Good News Club.
Greenwood has a school-wide focus on teaching life-skills through guidance instruction, school-wide implementation of the Core Essential Values Curriculum and PBIS. Civic responsibility is fostered in our learning community through participation in The American Heart Association: Heart Challenge, Wreaths Across America, Winter Coat Drive and Thanksgiving Food Baskets and other service learning projects that acknowledge our diverse learning community and needs.
We believe that it takes the combined efforts of students, parents, community, faculty and staff to educate and prepare our students to be productive citizens. Our partnerships with the National Network of Partnership Schools, Association of Parents and Teachers, Faith-Based Partnership Program, All Pro Dads, and the School Improvement Council exemplify this belief. We continue to be diligent in our efforts to work with all of our stakeholders to support school-wide programs and projects that meet the needs of students and ensure that Greenwood is a place where students in our community will be Guided, Educated and continue to SOAR (Self-Control, On task, Attitude, Respect).
