Warrenville Elementary is helping all students develop the World Class Skills of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by providing a safe, rigorous, and engaging learning environment. We provide such an environment through the implementation of our school’s purpose. The purpose of Warrenville Elementary is to provide students with the skills necessary to become college and career ready by setting rigorous standards in academic performance and high expectations for student behavior. We demonstrate our commitment to our purpose by diligently tracking student data, utilizing researched based instructional strategies, and providing timely interventions and acceleration opportunities such as FastBridge’s Screening to Intervention, iReady, NWEA’s Learning Continuum, System 44/Read 180, Voyager Passport, multilingual learner support, and the Advanced Gifted Program to support student achievement. Through data analysis, students needing more intensive support for reading and math receive additional support from a special education teacher and/or participate in our after-school tutoring program.
Ongoing, sustained professional development is designed to improve teaching and learning. Teachers spend time in professional learning opportunities for support and training on Understanding by Design, Multi-Tiered System of Supports, Depth of Knowledge, Effective Writing Instruction with Boswell, differentiated instruction, providing remediation and acceleration, as well as analyzing data. Together, we develop goals and teaching methods that are developmentally appropriate and meet the academic and behavioral needs of all learners.
At Warrenville, we have various extra-curricular activities that focus on the development of the whole child. These extra-curricular activities support the physical, social, emotional, and intellectual development of our students. Our character education program continues to excel by the recognition of good citizens, safety patrol, news team, and character education classes focused on “The 7 Habits of Happy Kids.” Through our PBIS program, students earn tickets which can be spent at the Train Station for prizes. Our Youth Development Team meets monthly to discuss ways to support the social and emotional needs of our students. Academic, character, and attendance achievements are celebrated at quarterly award ceremonies. Service-learning projects are also conducted to give back to the community.
Collaborating with all major stakeholders plays an important role in meeting the needs of our students. Through parent workshops, we teach parents strategies to support their child at home. During our Education Extravaganza, we provide parents and students with materials to prevent the summer slide. Through a variety of platforms, we communicate our vision, goals, plans, and priorities to staff, students, parents, and community on a regular basis. We also involve staff, students, parents, and community members in developing needs assessments, problem solving, and decision making for school improvement. All major stakeholders assist with planning, monitoring, and evaluating our school program for continuous improvement. Parent and community input are welcomed through PTO meetings, School Improvement Council meetings, and suggestions in response to surveys. Our community has a sense of shared responsibility in the outcome of the future of our young children. This is evident through the establishment of partnerships with: local churches, numerous businesses, community mentors, volunteer grandparents, and the local high school. Faith based and business partnerships support us in community involvement activities, providing school supplies, the backpack food ministry, and other outreach programs.
At Warrenville, we believe the school, family, and community all play a major role in shaping the lives of our youth. Together, we are developing our future South Carolina graduates and world-class leaders!
