Message from Superintendent
Williamsburg County School District has set out to ensure a world-class education for all scholars by utilizing a rigorous, innovative curriculum that focuses on creativity, critical thinking and problem solving, in partnership with all stakeholders. WCSD is “Imagining Greatness” for all of our scholars and staff.
Based on the 2023-2024 student enrollment data approximately 87% of our scholars are African American, 8.5% Caucasian, 1% Hispanic/Latino, 0.6% are Asian, 2.4% are two or more races, and 0.5% are other. Scholars in grade PK-12 attend one of the eleven schools. Williamsburg County is 934 square miles and home to two primary schools, three elementary schools, three middle schools, two high schools, and one career center.
As we reflect on the past year, we are pleased with the accomplishments that our district has made and acknowledge that we must work continuously this year to ensure that we are on the path to excellence. The districts academic proficiency rates are on the rise which reflects that dedication and hard work of our scholars, families, and educators. The percentage of elementary and middle school scholars who met or exceeded expectations on SC Ready from 2023 to 2024 increased in both ELA and Math. The high school End Of Course Examination Program (EOCEP) proficiency rates increased in all areas, English 2, Algebra 1, USHC, and Biology 1.
Williamsburg County has implemented and/or expanded several programs this year to ensure that we are addressing the needs of the whole child.
- The Flexible Academy Fast Forward Program is a short-term, flexible academic program for over-aged rising 8th graders who have experienced setbacks academically and are either over-aged or not on track to graduate.
- Power-Up is a new intervention program the supports scholars in grades K-5. The program was created to support scholars who exhibit abnormal behaviors that impede learning. The program will use 5 competencies of social-emotional learning (SEL).
- The Advanced Placement (AP) program enables willing and academically prepared scholars to pursue college-level studies while still in high school.
- Dual Enrollment / Early College- We have partnered with Williamsburg Technical College to offer dual enrollment opportunities to high school scholars through Dual Enrollment Advanced Learning (DEAL) program and Career and Technical Education (CATE) program. The DEAL program offers two pathways for student success, the General College Studies certificate provides a pathway for scholars to take college credit courses while enrolled in high school. The Early College program provides a pathway for scholars to complete the General College Studies certificate, as well as an associate’s degrees while attending high school.
- Dual Enrollment - We have partnered with Francis Marion university for Dual Enrollment at The Continuum, which provides a pathway for scholars to take college credit courses while enrolled in high school.
- Accelerate Virtual Engineering Program – We have partners with the South Carolina Governor’s School for Science and Mathematics (SCGSSM) to expose our scholars to engineering degrees which is providing them with a world-class opportunity to gain hands-on experiences as pre-engineering students.
Williamsburg County School District is invested in the success of ALL of our scholars. As we embark on the new school year, we are excited about the amazing things that are taking place in the district and look forward to continuing to engage and empower our scholars to do their best.
