"John E. Ewing Middle School is helping all students develop the world class skills and life and career characteristics of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by providing quality, safe, nurturing educational opportunities for students to succeed as responsible, productive citizens. Our mission is to instill a desire in every student for life-long learning. Our teachers are continually learning new information and strategies to use in the classroom such as: project-based learning, literacy strategies, engaging students with technology, motivating students, inquiry-based lessons, rigor/depth of knowledge, and response to intervention. At Ewing Middle School, teachers offer a blend of direct instruction, differentiated instruction, and facilitation of learning as students use technology to research and answer questions. We have full wireless coverage in our school and every student is issued a laptop to access real-time information. Students use critical thinking skills and teamwork to learn English Language Arts, math, science, social studies, and the arts as they discuss current events and solve real-world, relevant problems. Results from the Gallup Poll showed an increase in Ewing students' scores on engagement, hope, and entrepreneurial aspiration. We secured mentors for several students who needed an adult to share guidance, life experiences, hope, and encouragement. Our guidance counselors teach career guidance to all grades and take students to local businesses and to the Cherokee Technology Center for career awareness. As educators, our responsibility is to develop a well-prepared workforce so that our businesses can remain globally competitive. We appreciate Know (2) Cherokee for helping us create a culture where education is valued by community, parents, and students. Mrs. Sally Petty - SIC Chairman Dr. Denise Wooten - Principal "
