At Simmons Pinckney Middle School, we offer our scholars a rigorous curriculum in core, fine arts, and career and technology courses. We currently meet our scholars’ academic needs through our Personalized Learning Model, Project-based Learning Model, and adaptive digital platforms. Simmons Pinckney Middle School is helping all students develop world-class skills as well as life, and career characteristics which are aligned with the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate. Our school is a community school that provides students with a supportive, safe, caring, and engaging learning environment.
Simmons Pinckney Middle School serves 274 students in grades 6-8 and is currently the only traditional middle school on the peninsula. In existence since 2015, Simmons Pinckney is creating 21st Century scholars with personalized learning and STEAM integration to produce achievement-oriented students. Students also have the opportunity to participate in our after-school 21st Century Program, where students receive one-on-one tutoring and academic support. We also have partnerships with our local colleges, Charleston County School District’s Targeted Support Team, and community partners. These partnerships allow students to gain confidence and participate in several community Project-Based-Learning opportunities that provide relevant experiences.
Our data indicate significant growth in MAP assessments, which adaptively measure student growth. However, the end-of-year assessments (SC READY and SC PASS), which test students on grade level, is an area of concern for our school. To address concerns, we have consulted with three educational consultant companies: Education Elements, who assists us with implementation of Personalized Learning Model; New Tech Network, who assists us with implementation of Project-Based Learning Model; and AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination), who assists us in implementing strategies including writing, inquiry, collaboration, organization, and reading (WICOR).
We understand the ultimate goal is to help scholars prepare for college or a career of their choice and we expect all of them to succeed in the 21st Century.
