“Our school is helping all of its students develop the world-class skills and life career characteristics of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate.” We accomplish this by promoting the skills necessary for students to experience success in the workforce as well as in post-secondary educational opportunities.
The 2019-2020 school year was marked by great progress for our students as we sought to provide varied opportunities for post-secondary options. The engineering and sports medicine programs experienced substantial growth. 100% of our seniors applied to colleges and/or universities. The juniors and seniors were exposed to a variety of career and college opportunities through the EdOps program. Juniors and seniors participating in our Teacher Cadet program continue to actively mentor freshman students through homeroom classes each week.
Equally important, our dual enrollment program has successfully completed its 8th year and offers 45 hours of potential college credit. We offer a Teacher Cadet program, four History courses, four Math courses, including Calculus, two Biology courses, and two English courses. In addition to these 42 hours of credit, we also offer AP English Literature and AP English Language. We were excited to offer AP Human Geography over the 2019-2020 school year as well. Our career and technology curriculum continues to expand. We now offer eight different electives pertaining to business and marketing, as well as new courses in engineering and sports medicine.
In addition, our fine arts program has made significant strides over the last year. Our marching band completed its third year of competition. The marching band placed 1st in two different competitions over the last year won a Superior Rating through the SC Association of Band Directors. The drama department continues to grow at an exponential rate. The students hosted two productions this year, and had a third performance planned prior to Covid-19. The drama students competed in drama competitions at Anderson University and the University of South Carolina at Aiken.
Our faculty continues to develop professionally. Several of our educators have enrolled in advance degree programs and two passed milestones this past year in their post-graduate programs of study. As our educators advance themselves professionally, we are pleased to pass their success forward to our students in the form of additional programs.
Ultimately, we look forward to continued progress in the 2020-2021 school year. We always operate on the belief that if we slow down, we will start moving backward. With that belief in mind, we embrace the new school year as we look forward to many outstanding student successes!
