Bengal Nation’s vision is helping all students develop the World Class Skills of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate through authentic and valued relationships which provides opportunities to connect with a trusted person, find their place to get involved, and discover their true purpose. Our priorities are student success through rigorous instruction and purposeful collaboration in a safe and caring environment for all. World Class Skills are fostered through a network of and secure opportunities for every student to be College and Career Ready. Improvements in communication and collaboration with students, staff, families and community partners ensure that Bengal Nation is fair, equitable, diverse, innovative, physically and emotionally safe for all.
To further develop needed critical skills for the 21st century, our school came into a partnership with NMSI (National Math and Science Initiative). This initiative is to assist schools with expanding the population of students taking advanced placement courses in Mathematics, Sciences, and English. There is support for teachers to give them the tools and resources necessary to raise student achievement in these courses. For students, the use of this initiative has provided additional resources to make courses richer and with college-ready skills, Some of these resources included collaboration by integrating learning from peers and experts. This year students have said that after three years of high school they are happy with their learning environment.
Blythewood High School continues to grow partnerships with businesses statewide. After entering into Transform SC, our school made the choice to evaluate the instruction delivered to our students. By using the Transform SC blueprint, one concept that was given attention was personalized learning. Through teacher preferred professional development, teachers received the support necessary to develop instruction that promotes customized learning experiences for individual student’s needs.
To build ownership of our work with our students, Blythewood High School, is part of the South Carolina Collective Leadership Initiative. This cooperative initiative empowers our teachers to become leaders in their expertise and explore new leadership opportunities, supports our core values to show respect, take responsibility, and build relationships.
