T- Teamwork-In this world, whether one is in college and/or the workforce, there are others with whom we must to be able to collaborate and work with to accomplish tasks effectively.
O- Ownership- We want students to own their words and actions.
- Implementing a Positive Behavioral/Academic Supports System has enhanced the learning in our school by creating a culture of leaders committed to promoting a positive learning environment. The P.B.I.S. process embedded school-wide expectations, common language and the belief system that allowed us to provide a safe, caring environment that develops strong relationships with all stakeholders, practices a “student first” mindset, while providing ongoing training for teachers on how to create and deliver a rigorous curriculum that makes learning relevant for all.
- Implementing an E.D.I.S.T.O. Intervention “E” Block where all students have the opportunity to receive intervention for academics (Monday-Thursday) and behavior (Friday) during our rotating intervention block. Students who are proficient in their academics and behavior will enjoy an extended lunch as long as school-wide expectations are met.
- By providing an innovative choice program we call Next Gen. This program provides an advanced, enriched curriculum that will prepare all students for college, careers, and life in an ever-changing global economy. Freshmen students complete a cross-curriculum Project-Based Learning assessment. The PBL is always based on a local, real-life problem. This year, Freshmen Next Gen students investigated possible pollutants to the Edisto River and created a county-wide report card on the things local businesses were doing to keep our water clean and safe. This past fall, Sophomore Next Gen students completed 30 hours of Job Shadowing, following professionals in up to 3 career fields the students were interested in studying. During the spring semester, students researched their fields of interest further and created an action plan for entering their chosen career. As the program continues to grow, Next Gen students will also have opportunities to participate in internships and take college-level classes in their anticipated fields of studies.
