Mauldin High School is helping all students develop world-class skills and the life and career characteristics of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate through a continued focus on academic excellence. This is achieved through intelligent collaboration with our students, staff, parents, and community. A 2019-2020 survey distributed to faculty, parents, and students revealed high levels of satisfaction with the school and its learning environment.
Mauldin High School is a district and statewide leader in academic achievement. The school has among the district’s highest passing averages on the End-Of-Course assessments. Our graduation rate, which ranks at the top in Greenville County, is among the top 3% in South Carolina and exceeded 92% this year. Of the graduating class, nearly 500 students graduated as college and career ready, as per the SC state standards. The Class of 2020 earned scholarships totaling more than $21.2 million, to include 48 students recognized as Palmetto Fellow recipients and a National Merit Finalist. Advanced Placement exams were administered to 598 students who took more than 1,055 Advanced Placement exams. Our academic program is supported by a dynamic counseling and career development staff who meet with each student multiple times a year to evaluate academic progress and review college and career plans.
Our band and chorus programs continued a long-standing tradition of excellence. Performing arts placed a high number of students in regional and county band selections. In athletics, Mauldin High finished in the top 10 in the South Carolina Athletic Directors Cup in 5A. Thirty-three athletes signed letters of intent in a variety of collegiate-level sports. Our Teacher Cadets program secured a Memorandum of Agreement with Clemson University to grant dual credit (college credit) to students who successfully participate in career preparation opportunities. We also expanded our Early College program and strengthened our partnership with Greenville Technical College. The expansion involved offering college courses taught by Mauldin HS Faculty. More than 185 Mauldin High students earned college credit in English 101 and 102, History 201 and 202, Math 110 and 111, and EDU 111.
Our Navy JROTC program also committed 2,500+ hours of community service as part of their military training. Additionally, our NJROTC unit was recognized by the Commander of the Naval Service Training Command as a Distinguished Unit with Academic Honors. This designation means that we are in the top 20% of all units (583 of them) nationwide. The MHS Rifle Team was a national finalist at their yearly competition. Finally, the MHS student body raised more than $125,000 for charity during our annual spirit week activities, proving that the charitable spirit is alive and well at Mauldin High.
Mauldin High School is fortunate to have an active and supportive PTSA and School Improvement Council. Our volunteers donated in excess of 35,000 hours, serving in a variety of tasks including School Store duties, testing, mentoring, and student and faculty support. Our SIC and Mentor Upstate launched a successful mentoring program for our OnTrack students and others in need of support. The SIC and PTSA continued to support our school counseling department and social worker to provide a food pantry and weekend backpack program. This program ensures students in need have access to meals during non-school times.
Mauldin High continues to focus on our Motto: Motivation-Achievement-Values-Success. We believe we are building a better graduate by recognizing that “Relationships + Relevance + Rigor = Results.”
