Chester High School is in Chester County School District which is synonymous with educational excellence. Chester High School is located in a family oriented community located along the I-77 corridor that links the state capital of Columbia to the south with Charlotte, N.C. to the north. It is accredited by the South Carolina Department of Education and AdvancEd. Chester High School is under the leadership of Dr. Duane Graham, who serves as principal and is assisted by the School Improvement Council Chair, Robert Jordan, English teacher. Chester High School is recognized locally and statewide for achievements in academics, arts, athletics, and leadership.
Chester High School is a traditional, four-year, comprehensive public school serving approximately 830 students in grades 9 - 12 through the use of 4x4 block scheduling. Our school implemented a Freshman Academy, which provides an alternative schedule to meet the needs of 9th grades students in English, math, and World Geography. Curriculum areas offered include college preparatory, gifted and talented, technical preparatory, and special education. Additionally, CHS is continually seeking and implementing increased opportunities for our students in Advanced Placement and dual-credit courses. Presently, students are offered opportunities to take select college courses through collaboration with York Technical College, Winthrop University, and USC Lancaster.
Chester High School serves a diverse student population. An excellent program of co-curricular activities are offered to all students that they are able to participate in a variety of activities. Opportunities exist in community services, academic competitions, music, JROTC, and athletics. Our Football team won the state championship and basketball team competed in the upper-state finals. Most notable is that approximately 70% of our student body participated in extracurricular activities. The JROTC continued its participation in many community service oriented projects including coaching, teaching, and mentoring young students at Chester Park Elementary Schools. This year, our JROTC received an Honor Unit of Distinction award for scoring a 97.7 rating for excellence on a state audit.
Chester High School consistently pursues high standards of achievement while seeking to ensure that each child possesses the tools to thrive in a rapidly changing world. This is evidenced by the fact that the graduating class will receive over $4.7 million in college scholarships.
