Aiken High School is helping all students develop the world class skills of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by creating an educational environment that is focused on fostering creativity, critical thinking, teamwork, and communication skills. The Profile of the South Carolina graduate is evident in Aiken High’s 2019 graduating class. Our 2019 graduates’ critical thinking and communication skills earned them over $15 million in scholarships. Aiken High School Class of 2019 included fifteen Palmetto Fellows, nine Rotary scholarships recipients, and two of the five students in the first cohort of the Call Me Mister program which will pay full tuition for minority male students who will be majoring in education at either Aiken Technical College or USCA-Aiken. Twenty-seven students will be receiving free tuition at a South Carolina technical or two-year institution for being awarded the LIFE scholarship. Seventy-four students will be receiving HOPE or LIFE at a four-year institution. Eight students will put their collaboration and teamwork skills to the test serving our country in the Armed Forces. Aiken High graduates demonstrated their world class skills by not only excelling academically but also through excellence in extracurricular activities. Three 2019 graduates earned the National Restaurant Association’s ProStart Certificate of Achievement. One senior made 1st chair electric bass for SCBDA All State Jazz Band. Three seniors received scholarships for their work with the Beta Club and two seniors received the National Beta Club School of Merit award.
In addition to our graduates, all Aiken High students have exhibited world class skills as evidenced in their superior performances in extra-curricular activities. The Academic Team won the district tournament for the third year in a row. The Aiken High School Band received the Outstanding Performance Award for the second year in a row. Our well rounded students continue to exemplify what it means to possess world class skills both in the classroom and in sports competitions. The Girls’ Cross Country, Boys’ Cross Country, Boys’ Track Team, and Girls’ Track Team were all Region Champions. The Volleyball Team won the Region Championship for the 11th year in a row. The NJROTC unit won 1st place overall in the Annual Superintendent’s Cup held among the Aiken District high schools. The Aiken High NJROTC also collected over 25 1st thru 3rd place trophies for Drill and Rifle Team competitions this year competing against schools from North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia; and they were awarded the unit achievement award by the area manager for exceptional performance for this school year. At Aiken High School we are proud of the relationship we have established between our community, families, and faculty that has allowed us to create an educational environment that allows our students to shine.
