Jennie Moore Elementary School for the Creative Arts is helping all students develop the World Class Skills of a Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by integrating our fine arts program across a rigorous academic curriculum to engage students to become life-long learners. Our administration, faculty, and staff continue to seek opportunities to challenge our students daily in their academics. Our tradition of arts integration allows students to demonstrate creativity, innovation, critical thinking, and problem solving. Students have the opportunity to be involved in specialized classes for art, music, dance, and drama. In addition, the art and music teachers collaborate with the classroom teachers in the homeroom class to provide team taught lessons across the core curriculums of math, reading, language arts, science, and social studies. This level of arts integration encourages students to make connections and solidify learning across curriculum areas. With the implementation of FastBridge for our Kindergarten and first grade students and the continuation of MAP testing for all other grades, teachers strive to better understand and use data to guide their daily instruction and to meet the needs of individual learners. Strong parental involvement and active community support have contributed to our students' development of Life and Career characteristics of integrity, self-direction, and interpersonal skills. In our 10th year of I-BEAM, we welcomed over 60 community volunteers into our school weekly for a reading-lunch buddy program. The program is designed so that the same volunteer will mentor a student from the second grade until they graduate from Jennie Moore Elementary. We were also fortunate to participate for the 7th year in the Engaging Creative Minds project. With the support of our PTA, each grade level was able to have two artist-in-residence programs throughout the year. Through this collaborative effort of community artists, faculty and students have continued to expand arts integration, offering opportunities to enrich our students' learning and develop their interpersonal skills and their sense of integrity with their artistic skills. Jennie Moore uses arts integration and rigorous academics fused together to enable students to be successful learners. We will continue to set high goals for individual achievement and support teachers with the training and materials to allow them to provide every student with a challenging educational environment that is nurturing, respectful, and engaging.
