St. James-Santee Elementary- Middle School is a rural school on the northern boundary of Charleston County. We are located in beautiful McClellanville, South Carolina, and surrounded by the Francis Marion National Forest. Our school is known for its small class sizes and ability to individualize learning to make our educational experience more personal for each student.
This year, we implemented Walk to Read and Sprint to Math for students in second through eighth grades to focus on specific skills in reading and mathematics. Our I-Beam mentoring program, which provides intervention for students needing reading assistance, continued for the fourth year. Our continued partnership with the East Cooper Faith Network will allow this program to continue pairing mentors with our students until they leave our school.
Our school continues to use the PBIS model for school-wide behavioral expectations. Our (HERO) motto allows our students to demonstrate characteristics that prepare them to be Helpful, with an Excellent Attitude, Responsible and an Outstanding Scholar. Students have the opportunity to participate in HERO activities and receive daily and weekly recognition, along with scheduled, incentive-based events.
Our school has always been committed to students, families, and the community we serve. As our students reach new heights, we are hopeful that our growing and active partnerships with all of our stakeholders will continue in the lives of our students. The expectation at St. James-Santee Elementary-Middle School is to become a model school for academic achievement as we prepare students for high school and beyond.
