Harbor View Elementary School works every day to make sure students develop the world class skills expected of South Carolina graduates. Our mission is for every student to leave with a world class education ready to make the world a better place. We encourage our students to be creative and innovative as they problem solve. We encourage them to collaborate with other students and teachers as they strive to be the best they can be. Students have access to a variety of learning avenues to help them find answers to problems they are solving.
We focus on engaging students every day. When you come to Harbor View you will see quality student work hanging in the hallways and students taking pride in their work. You will hear students asking questions of their peers and their teachers. You will see students working with each other and using technology to solve problems. You will feel the support we have for each other as teachers work with students to reach their fullest potential.
Students and teachers continue to focus on critical thinking and problem solving skills during instruction. Students are tasked with problems in class that require complex solutions and multi-step approaches. Teachers require students to cite evidence when solving a problem or defending an argument. Students are active participants in field trips to landmarks such as the South Carolina Aquarium, Charles Towne Landing, and other educational destinations in South Carolina. Authors and other presenters are invited to the school to open our students up to new ideas and experiences that deepen their critical thinking and problem solving skills.
As a school community, we work to instill world class skills, world class knowledge, and life/career characteristics in our students. These efforts, and well-developed work habits will lead our students through middle school and high school. Our active PTA and SIC work with the school consistently to make sure our students and teachers have what they need. Every year our students participate in a Fun Run to raise money for the school that the PTA organizes. Through this event, we also give back to our community through donations. We work with our community to ensure that we participate in supporting their needs. The teachers and staff at Harbor View Elementary School take pride in developing an environment that provides a rich educational experience to students. Students can also join our Tennis or Running Club teams, participate in our yearly musical, or participate in our Strings program. Our vibrant and involved community supports the needs of our school so that the focus is on education for all students.
