Devon Forest Elementary, located in Goose Creek, serves a diverse population of over 996 students in child development through fifth grade. We have focused our efforts on improving student learning by using the following data tools: District Benchmark Assessments, HMH Reading Inventory, HMH Math Inventory, SRA Direct Instruction Data, ESGI, Fountas and Pinnell and DRA. Since 2010, we have been awarded Palmetto Gold for our student performance growth, Palmetto Silver for student performance growth, Palmetto Silver for closing the achievement gap, Red Carpet Award which acknowledges our family-friendly environment and exemplary customer service, the PBIS Exemplar Award and the MUSC Wellness Award for 2013, 2015 and 2018.
As a school and District, we are focused on developing the World Class Skills of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate. We are focused on the four Cs including critical thinking, communication, collaboration and creativity. Our teachers are facilitators of student learning. Students use multiple sources of information including technology, internet, software programs to find information or apply what they have learned. Collaboration is the thread for much of our student learning. Teachers use a variety of performance -based assessments to evaluate student learning. One of our goals is to prepare children to become productive members of a workplace.
Devon Forest continues to use a positive approach to school discipline as part of the Positive Behavior Intervention and Support (PBIS) Program. We established clear expectations for every part of our school. The expectations are taught and reinforced throughout the school year.
Home/school communication continued with the use of Communication Folders in grades K-5, monthly calendar of events, Facebook, Twitter, Class Dojo, Seesaw, Peachjar, and a district wide calling/message system. Parenting events hosted by Title I were successful this year. Events included Just a Chicken Family Night, Winter Wonderland, Family Empowerment Workshop, Fresh Free Produce with Lowcountry Foodbank, and Cooking Matters Family Course Students participated in Kids Who Care, DFE Chorus, PBIS Patrol, Reading Buddies Program, Special Needs Buddy Program, Guys in Ties, Girls in Pearls, Cooking Club, Recycle Program, and Little Mermaid Jr Production. Parents, community liaisons, and teachers involved throughout this year on our Title I Advisory Board and School Improvement Council.
