Boulder Bluff Elementary is helping all students develop the World Class Skills and life and career characteristics of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by providing a rigorous learning environment while meeting the academic and social needs of every student. This was our second year implementing “The Leader in Me” model. We focused on setting Wildly Important Goals (WIG’s) and implemented data conferences. We made environmental changes throughout the school. We hosted our 2nd Leadership Day in May in which educators, business partners, and community members attended to learn about the leadership opportunities for students at BBE.
We integrated research based strategies, provided individualized interventions, and incorporated technology in all classrooms. Our school community set high expectations for all students and staff. Teachers modeled the importance of being life-long learners by receiving advanced degrees and participated in on-going staff development. Professional Learning Communities were held weekly to create common assessments, analyze student data, and to plan rigorous lessons. We continued to implement a structured Multi-Tier System of Support (MTSS) in which identified at-risk students in grades K-5 received additional small group instruction in reading and math. Title I and district funds supported instruction by procuring resources in the areas of reading and math, instructional interventionists, additional technology, and family nights. We also offered a variety of programs for students to participate in outside of academics such as Broadcast on the Bluff, BBE Band, Looms of Love, Jump Rope for Heart, Red Ribbon Week, Girls on the Run, Career Day, and BBE’s Mentoring Program. We inducted recommended third and fourth grade students into our charter of the National Elementary Honor Society. Boulder Bluff Elementary would not have been able to achieve its success without the aid of our wonderful community team. Our school has been fortunate to have an active PTO, an involved School Improvement Council, active volunteers, mentors, and local business partners. The Boulder Bluff Elementary family will continue to help every student reach their academic and leadership potential.
