Cane Bay Elementary is helping all students develop the world class skills and life and career characteristics of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate through dynamic instruction and personalized educational opportunities. The expertise of our instructional staff provides students with the support necessary to be successful. We realize high levels of academic growth and achievement for all students by providing a safe, student-centered, positive learning environment. Students participate in curriculum units that are aligned to standards and include critical thinking and problem solving activities. The school continues to implement a structured Multi-Tiered System of Support that provides at-risk students with remedial instruction and accelerates the skills of advanced students. School-wide reading strategies are utilized as a way to encourage and support students as readers as they develop the skills necessary for life beyond graduation.
Our instructional staff strives for excellence through the implementation of standards-driven instruction and participating in intensive professional development programs and Professional Learning Communities. These learning opportunities provide teachers with ways to increase content knowledge, improve professionally, and collaborate on instructional strategies and best practices that will improve student achievement.
Cane Bay Elementary believes strongly in the whole child approach that allows students to grow academically, socially, and emotionally. Students have opportunities to build healthy relationships, embrace diversity and problem solve while learning. Social emotional learning and soft skills are important to the success of all children and incorporated daily through Harmony lessons. Students are provided opportunities that encourage strong work ethics, improved communication skills, and the ability to problem solve and persevere. Students’ life and career characteristics are strengthened through our quarterly award ceremonies. In addition to school-wide and individual student academic success, students are recognized for their behavior through the school’s Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports program.
Technology and arts integration continue to be focus areas for Cane Bay Elementary. Cane Bay Elementary is a part of Berkeley County’s OneBerkeley Connects technology initiative, which allows all third and fourth grade students to utilize Chromebooks at school and at home. All students at Cane Bay Elementary will have a technology device to use at school during the 2019-20 school year. The school was awarded the Arts in Basic Curriculum (ABC) Advancement Grant, which has assisted with the implementation of standards-based arts curricula and making the arts an integral part of daily classroom instruction. Students were provided opportunities to work with artists in residency in areas such as visual arts, theater, dance, and creative writing.
At Cane Bay Elementary we strive for excellence and believe all students will be successful, world class leaders upon leaving our schools as graduates.
