Clearwater Elementary is helping all students develop the World Class Skills of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by providing an environment where students are challenged to be creative thinkers, innovative problem-solvers, and part of a caring community of learners. Multiple opportunities to engage in these skills are provided both inside and outside of the classroom. Through the implementation of a guaranteed and viable curriculum, teachers ensure students are presented grade level standards that will prepare them for future learning. Instructional strategies are varied to meet the unique learning needs of all students. Service projects are conducted throughout the year, giving the students an opportunity to collaborate and develop community values.
Classroom teachers are committed to each child’s education and providing high quality instruction. Common grade level planning time allows teachers to collaborate on creating meaningful lessons that are interrelated. Data team meetings keep the focus on student growth and achievement. Students are provided additional assistance as needed with a variety of interventions. Interventions are scheduled and part of the instructional day as well as opportunities for acceleration which allows all students access. Students in third grade through fifth grade that need intensive interventions are provided additional help through our Read180/System 44 class. Through Title I funds our school is able to provide a Reading Interventionist to provide additional reading support for our first and second grade students. Title I also allowed us to hire an additional 4th and 5th grade teacher that allowed us to reduce the amount of students in each class to allow for more one on one instruction. Technology is used in all classes to enhance learning and students are taught relevant computer skills.
Partnerships with community organizations allow our students to participate in the Good News Club, The Looney Tunes Bank, Celebration of Character, ESOL Tutoring and Savannah River Ecology Lab activities. Common behavioral expectations are taught and reinforced by all faculty and staff. Our school counselor provides whole group lessons designed to address person/social, academic, and career exploration domains. She also meets with small groups of students and individuals.
We are committed to serving our community and encouraging stakeholder support. Opportunities to participate and volunteer are provided through Open House, the Veteran’s Day program, Book Fairs, American Education Week, Family Reading Nights, ESOL Nights, field trips, career day, various grade level events, volunteering in the classroom, serving on the School Improvement/Title I committee, and our PTA. School information is communicated through the school website, the marquee, phone calls, conferences, school newsletters, classroom newsletters, automated phone calls, family handbook, and social media updates.
