Our school is helping all students develop the World Class Skills of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by providing an environment where students are challenged to grow academically as well as socially. Through the implementation of a guaranteed and viable curriculum, teachers ensure that students are presented with grade level standards and also provided opportunities for enrichment and remediation. Instructional strategies are varied to meet the learning needs of each and every student. Strong school-community relationships are an important piece of the foundation when it comes to building a strong school.
Teachers collaborate to create lessons that spark the imagination and challenge students to grow and discover their talents. They provide lessons that are meaningful and relevant. Data teams are utilized to discuss student growth and achievement. A reading interventionist is provided for students in kindergarten through fifth grades that need intensive interventions. Interventions are scheduled during the instruction day which allows access for all students. Through Title I funds, our school is able to provide a science lab instructor for a deeper exploration of science concepts. Kindergarten through fifth grade students put critical thinking skills to work as they collect, analyze, and summarize data through various experiments. Because computer proficiency is vital in developing World Class Skills, technology is used in all classes to enhance learning.
Partnerships with community organizations allow our students to participate in the Good News Club, The Looney Tunes Bank, Celebration of Character, and Savannah River Ecology Lab activities. School-wide behavioral expectations are taught and reinforced through behavioral celebrations. Our school counselor provides whole group lessons designed to address person/social, academic, and career exploration domains. Support is also provided through individual or small group meetings.
We are proud to serve our community and encourage stakeholder support. Opportunities to participate and volunteer are provided through Open House, the Veteran’s Day program, Book Fair, American Education Week, Family Reading Nights, field trips, career day, positive behavior celebrations, various grade level events, volunteering in the classroom, serving on the School Improvement Council (SIC)/Title I committee, and our Parent Teacher Organization. School information is communicated through the school’s website, the marquee, phone calls, conferences, classroom newsletters, automated phone calls, family handbook, the Eagles’ Tales newsletter, and social media updates.
